About OCI.Mde

OCI.Mde opened in August 2013 in Provenza, the project of chef Laura Londoño and architect Santiago Arango. She trained in two restaurants holding five Michelin stars between them; he is responsible for much of the planted greenery on Medellín’s newer buildings, which is why the architecture and the vegetation are part of the pitch. It occupies a house rather than a dining room in a block. The name is the point — ocio means leisure, the time you give to what you actually enjoy.

What to Order at OCI.Mde

The cooking is contemporary Colombian built on long, slow cooking and shared plates: Pacific fish with Andean tubers, vegetables, flowers and herbs. The dish people name most is the asado de tira, short ribs braised twelve hours in a lemon-and-chilli caramel with sticky rice and peanut crunch. Shrimp glazed in tomato-and-ricotta jam with crispy quinoa is the other. Finish with the warm blackberry-filled cookie and pistachio ice cream. The menu is rewritten every six months to follow Colombia’s agricultural seasons, so nothing on the carta is permanent.

Tips for Your Visit

OCI.Mde is at Transversal 7A #30-224, casa 130, El Poblado — note that older listings still carry a Carrera 33 address from its Provenza days, so confirm before you set off. It opens Tuesday and Wednesday to 9:30 PM and Thursday to Saturday to 10 PM, and closes Sunday and Monday. Reservations are taken online and worth making. Budget around $100,000 COP a head. There is a terrace, and the soundtrack is deliberately 1980s.
