Envigado and Sabaneta are separate municipalities that have grown into Medellín’s southern edge, twenty minutes from El Poblado on Metro Line A. Envigado’s Calle de la Buena Mesa is a genuine restaurant street with more than fifty places; Sabaneta’s church square is the buñuelo capital of the valley. Neither has a tourist menu, which is the point.
Envigado’s Calle de la Buena Mesa
Calle 36 Sur and the streets around the Parque de Envigado, where local press counts 50-plus restaurants and bars. Names locals repeat:
- La Rufina — American-style barbecue and one of the highest-rated tables in Envigado.
- Rebelión Sabores Salvajes — grill with a view over the valley.

Sabaneta: buñuelos and the square
Sabaneta’s Parque Principal, in front of the Santa Ana church, is where the valley goes for buñuelos: El Peregrino (Cl 70 Sur #43B-55, beside the park) has fried its 200-gram buñuelos for thirty years — 3,400 COP each, cash only, best with a hot chocolate mid-morning. El Viejo John‘s Sabaneta branch (Cra 45 #79 Sur-42) is the town’s reference for mondongo and bandeja paisa. Getting there and back
- Metro Line A south to Envigado station (then a 15-minute walk or short taxi to the Parque) or Sabaneta station (10 minutes on foot to the square). The metro runs until about 11 pm; taxis back to El Poblado are 15–25 minutes.
- Lunch is the strong meal in both towns; Buena Mesa is livelier at night. Sunday lunch books out.
- Printed 10% tip; small bills and cash for the buñuelo counter.
