About Donde Estela
Donde Estela is a fonda in the La Bahia sector of Sabaneta — a separate municipality south of Medellín, not a Medellín neighbourhood. It exists because of one woman and one product. Doña Estela Bermúdez arrived in Sabaneta around forty years ago to work as a mayordoma on a finca; her employers gave her a plot to build a house, and she started making morcilla in her own back patio. She wanted to stop. The neighbours refused to let her, and the restaurant is the result.
What to Order at Donde Estela
Morcilla is the reason to come: a full pound at around $37,000 COP, fried, boiled or mixed, served with two patacones and two arepas, or a half pound at $25,000. After that the picada is the house plate, with chicharrón at $38,000 for 250 g, chorizo at $25,000 for 150 g, caldo de sancocho at $26,000 and tinta de frijol at $13,000. Bandeja paisa, mondongo, sancocho trifásico, punta de anca and an Estela Burger fill out the menu.
Tips for Your Visit
Donde Estela is at Cra 32 #71 Sur-126 in Sabaneta, so a ride app rather than a walk from Medellín proper. Check the days before you go: it is closed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, opening Thursday to Saturday from noon until 11 PM or later, and Sunday from 11:45 AM to 9 PM. There is a dedicated WhatsApp line for reservations. One thing we could not confirm from public sources is whether cards are accepted — worth carrying cash, as many fondas of this kind are cash-only.
