About il forno Casa Laureles | Medellín
Il Forno began in 2000 in a house in San Lucas, El Poblado, with twelve tables. One of its founders, Santiago Botero, had studied sculpture in Italy and worked in restaurants to pay for it; on a trip to Florence he saw a wood-fired oven and brought the technique home, at a time when there was nothing like it in Medellín. Twenty-five years on it runs 35 branches. This is the Casa Laureles site — a free-standing house rather than one of the chain’s mall units, and a markedly better room for it.
What to Order at il forno Casa Laureles | Medellín
Wood-fired pizza is the founding dish, but the pasta is where regulars land: the gratinado de solomo y queso azul is the single most-recommended plate at this branch, with the spinach-and-ricotta ravioli in napolitana sauce close behind. The three burratas added in 2024 are worth ordering to share — Genova with San Marzano tomato and pesto, La Alegría with confited uchuva, Dolce Búfala with sweet bacon — served on a paddle as in Italy. House gelato comes in sixteen flavours.
