Museo El Castillo is the odd one out among Medellín’s sights: a French-château fantasy built in 1930 for a textile family in the hills of El Poblado, kept as they left it — Murano glass, porcelain, a ballroom, a library — with terraced gardens and a valley view. It is a calm two hours, a good rainy-afternoon plan, and the only attraction in this neighborhood that is not a restaurant. Hours, prices and rules below are the museum’s own for 2025.

What you see
The house was built by Diego Echavarría Misas, of the Coltejer textile dynasty, modelled on the châteaux of the Loire, and given to the city with its contents in 1971: the family’s collections of European porcelain, glass, furniture and paintings, room by room, with the guide explaining who slept where. The gardens are the reason to come on a clear day — terraces, a fountain walk, a small lake, the valley below — and they host concerts and exhibitions through the year. Allow 90 minutes with the tour, longer with a garden picnic.

Back down the hill are Provenza and Manila for lunch or dinner; the rooftop bars are ten minutes away for sunset; if the château leaves you wanting real history, Museo Casa de la Memoria downtown is the counterweight.
