Hatoviejo has been cooking Antioquian food in Medellín long enough to be the default answer when someone asks where to eat bandeja paisa. It now runs four locations across the city, each decorated like a finca — simple, warm, deliberately rural — with a relaxed room rather than a touristy one. Some branches put on live music on Friday and Saturday nights.

The bandeja paisa is why people come: red beans, rice, ground beef, chicharrón, fried egg, plantain, chorizo and arepa, on a platter that is genuinely enormous.
