About El Rancherito – Palmas
El Rancherito began with a dream. One night in June 1975, near Amagá, a woman named Mary dreamt she was building a little ranch to sell buñuelos, empanadas, chicken pasteles and hot chocolate. She woke up and told her husband “Mijo, póngase las botas.” They built it, starting with a lean-to and a wood fire, and within days cars were queuing along the road exactly as in the dream. The chain now runs nine locations across five municipalities; this is the Las Palmas one, at Km 2 on the highway.
What to Order at El Rancherito – Palmas
The bandeja paisa is the full version at around $54,800 COP — beans, rice, ground beef, chorizo, morcilla, chicharrón, fried egg, sweet plantain, salad, avocado and arepa. The cazuela de frijoles ($41,900) is the chain’s single most-ordered dish, and the churrasco with papas criollas is the other pick at this branch. Worth knowing: they open at 6:15 AM and serve a proper paisa breakfast of arepas, buñuelos and hot chocolate, which few restaurants at this level bother with.

El Rancherito Las Palmas sits at Km 2 on the Las Palmas road, so a car or ride app. Cards are accepted. Reckon on around $95,000 COP a head. Hours are 6:15 AM to 9:30 PM Sunday to Wednesday, to 11 PM Thursday and Friday, to 11:30 PM Saturday. Reservations are taken Monday to Saturday for slots between noon and 7 PM — but the restaurant’s own booking page states plainly that reservations are not accepted at weekends, so turn up early. There is a pet-friendly zone, children’s play areas and event capacity for 150.
