Ten days in Medellín and the surrounding Antioquia region gives you time to explore the city properly, venture out on multiple day trips, experience the nightlife, sample the food scene, and still have genuinely slow days. This itinerary covers the full range: iconic city sights, less-visited neighborhoods, Guatapé and Jardín, the coffee region, and Medellín’s cultural calendar.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1 — Arrival & El Poblado Orientation
Arrive via El Dorado International (Bogotá connection) or direct from the US/Europe to José María Córdova International Airport. Transfer to El Poblado (45–60 min by transfer, $25–35 USD; see transfer guide). Check in and walk Provenza — the pedestrian-friendly bar, café, and restaurant strip. Dinner at one of the Provenza restaurants. Early night: you’ll need energy for the rest of the trip.
Day 2 — El Centro & Plaza Botero
Morning metro to Parque Berrío station. Walk Plaza Botero (23 sculptures), visit the Museum of Antioquia, continue to the Catedral Metropolitana and the pedestrian shopping streets. Lunch at a Centro corrientazo ($3 USD). Afternoon: Parque de los Pies Descalzos and the nearby Explora science museum. Return to El Poblado for evening drinks at a Provenza rooftop bar.
Day 3 — Comuna 13 Tour
Morning tour of Comuna 13 — book a guided tour for the best context (book here). The tour covers the escalator system, street art, and community history (3 hours). Afternoon free in El Poblado or Laureles. Evening: El Eslabón Prendido salsa hall if it’s a Tuesday or Thursday.
Day 4 — Guatapé Day Trip
Full day at El Peñol de Guatapé — depart 7 AM by tour or private transfer (2 hours). Climb the 740 steps for the summit view, explore the colorful town of Guatapé (zócalos), boat ride on the reservoir. Return to Medellín by 6 PM. This is the standout experience of the trip for most visitors.
Day 5 — Laureles & Local Life
Move to Laureles or explore it as a day visit. Morning coffee at a local café on La 70. Walk the Estadio neighborhood and the residential streets between Carrera 70 and Carrera 65. Lunch at a parrilla restaurant. Afternoon: Jardín Botánico and the Orquideorama if you haven’t been. Evening at a Laureles bar — more local, less touristy than El Poblado.
Day 6 — Coffee Tour
Half-day or full-day coffee farm tour from Medellín — visiting a working finca in the mountains above the city, seeing the coffee production process from picking to cupping, and returning with a bag of excellent single-origin beans. Return by afternoon for a gentle evening in El Poblado.
Day 7 — Santa Fe de Antioquia Day Trip
Early bus from Terminal del Norte to Santa Fe de Antioquia (1.5 hours). Explore the colonial plaza, visit Iglesia de Santa Bárbara, walk to the Puente de Occidente, have a traditional lunch. Return by 5 PM. The heat contrast with Medellín is remarkable — don’t forget sunscreen.
Day 8 — Jardín Overnight (Depart)
Morning bus from Terminal del Sur to Jardín (3 hours). Arrive for lunch in the colonial plaza, take the cable car up to Cristo Rey, walk the flower-balcony streets, visit a coffee finca. Stay overnight in a colonial boutique hotel — this is non-negotiable for the full experience. Sunset from the plaza with locals is one of Antioquia’s finest moments.
Day 9 — Jardín to Medellín & Nightlife
Morning in Jardín — optional pre-breakfast walk to a waterfall or coffee farm. Return bus to Medellín, arriving mid-afternoon. Clean up and rest. Tonight: Medellín’s nightlife at full capacity — Provenza cocktails from 8 PM, Parque Lleras after midnight. This is the night to experience the best of the city after dark.
Day 10 — Final Day & Departure
Late morning brunch at a Provenza café. Last-minute shopping at Mercado San Alejo (if first Saturday of month) or in Provenza boutiques. Depart for José María Córdova airport — allow 2 hours travel time from El Poblado.
