Medellín’s bar scene has transformed dramatically since 2015. The city that once had a reputation primarily for reggaetón clubs and aguardiente shots now hosts world-class cocktail bars, craft beer taprooms, natural wine bars, tango halls, and live jazz venues. The action concentrates in three zones: Provenza (craft cocktails, 8–11 PM), Parque Lleras (late-night clubs, midnight–3 AM), and La 70 in Laureles (local bars, vallenato, salsa).
Best Cocktail Bars in Medellín
Craft Beer Bars
3 Cordilleras Brewery
Medellín’s oldest and largest craft brewery, 3 Cordilleras, has a taproom near the Estadio metro station that fills up on weekend afternoons. The flagship Mestiza blonde and Mulata dark are the best sellers; seasonal and experimental brews rotate regularly. Brewery tours available Saturdays at 1 PM — book online in advance.
BBC (Bogotá Beer Company) Medellín
The Colombian craft beer chain BBC has multiple El Poblado and Laureles locations — reliable, busy, and a good entry-level option before the cocktail bars open. The Cajicá Gold and Monserrate Roja are crowd favorites.
Entoño Craft
A smaller, newer craft beer bar in Laureles (near Carrera 76) that rotates taps from Colombian microbreweries and occasionally features Argentine and Chilean imports. Food pairing menu of local snacks. Opens at 4 PM, peak hours 7–10 PM.
Tango & Salsa Bars
El Eslabón Prendido
The legendary live-band salsa hall in Centro, operating every Tuesday and Thursday evening with lessons before the band starts at 9 PM. A $5 USD cover gets you into one of Latin America’s most authentic salsa club experiences. The musicians are exceptional. The crowd is local. This is the real thing — not a tourist-oriented show.
La Caseta (Tango Bar)
In the Manrique neighborhood (a short Uber from El Poblado), La Caseta hosts milongas and tango evenings in a traditional Medellín bar setting. The connection to Carlos Gardel and the city’s tango history is celebrated on the walls. Traditional milonga etiquette applies.

Safety Tips for Bar-Hopping
Stay safe: Use Uber between neighborhoods — don’t walk between Parque Lleras and La 70 at night. Never accept open drinks from strangers. Keep your phone in your front pocket in crowded bars. Stick to the Provenza / Lleras / La 70 triangle; avoid unmarked areas well after midnight. Tell someone where you’re going.
